Submission Guidelines
All written submissions to WAQ must be:

Images files should be sent as JPEG, TIFF, or Adobe PDF formats and 300 DPI resolution. Black and white images are also sufficient.
Fiction, Personal Essay, and Poetry Guidelines​

Fiction submission (up to 30 pages)

We do not accept previously published work. This includes self-publication and work that appears online.

Submissions should include the author's contact information on every page, be clearly titled, and be paginated if longer than one page.

Please double-space fiction and essay manuscripts. Do not double-space poetry submissions.

Your cover letter should include your name, address, phone number, and email. Indicate which genre your submission belongs and the title(s) of your work. Author biographies are not necessary, but welcomed.

We allow simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately by email if accepted elsewhere.

Please allow 3-6 months for a response. If you have not received a response from us after 6 months, you may inquire by email about the status of your submission.

We assume no responsibility for delayed, lost, or damaged manuscripts.

For payment upon publication, the author will receive two copies of the issue in which her work appears.

WAQ acquires First North American Serial Rights to the writing we publish. Upon publication, all rights revert back to the author.
Visual Art Guidelines

Your cover letter should include your name, address, phone number, email, and artist statement. Indicate the medium(s) and the title(s) of your work. Artists biographies are not necessary, but welcomed.

​
The editors invite reviews of books, articles, biographies, catalogues, and profiles.

WAQ welcomes articles in all areas of musical scholarship, including history, criticism, analysis, performance practice, profiles, and archival research: up to 10 pages

CD Reviews (up to 5 pages)

DVD Reviews (up to 5 pages)

CD/DVD Reviews
​

WAQ reviews mainly classical music, jazz, and folk music.

Each submission should include a one to two paragraph abstract and contact information including postal address, phone number, and e-mail address. Send CD or DVD with a cover letter addressed to the Senior Editor to:

Cassette tapes, MIDI, and/or other media will not be considered.

The CD/DVD must be of professional quality and commercially available.

Include information about the release on one page.

Do not send your only copy. It will not be returned to you. All music submitted becomes the property of WAQ.

We are under no obligation to review everything sent to us.

Text documents (including tables, etc.) must be readable by Microsoft Word. If you use a program other than Microsoft Word, please send the document both in the file format of your program (.wpd or other format) and as an .rtf (rich text format) file.

Please do not send files in Finale or other music notation programs for the initial submission. If you are producing examples in Finale, note that it allows you to export images in a variety of formats, including JPEG and TIFF, and to use the Graphics Tool to select examples and export them. The resulting lower quality is suitable for the initial review process.
